Life is meant to be lived.
And special days, celebrated.
We celebrated our 24th anniversary in late November. But we waited until the following week for our festivities! We bought each other seasonal passes to Universal Studios Orlando and then booked one nite at Cabana Bay Beach Resort on the Universal property. Our plan was to leave early on Thursday so we could spend 2 full days immersed in Harry Potter! We had been to the first Harry Potter area, Hogsmeade, back in 2010, but it was a pretty short visit. We were so excited to get back and take our time PLUS experience the new Diagon Alley … and ride Hogwarts Express to do so!!!
Our arrival at Cabana Bay resort was one of vintage surprise! I hadn’t really looked into the style or theme of the resort, it was just the most inexpensive of the four properties and that worked for us. I couldn’t have been more pleased with our selection! Cabana Bay harkens back to the 1950’s and the heyday of family motel travel. From the moment you walk in, the décor is whimsical and spot-on vintage revival! I love it!
And the rooms were not spared in vintage décor perfection! The colors, the simplicity, the attention to little details like the alarm clock and plastic chairs!
We were there at the beginning of December so in addition to all of the vintage loveliness, we were enamored with holiday décor! Silver trees and silver garland were all over the lobby! Huge colored ornament balls! And in the merchandise shop window was an old school aluminum tree with a multi-colored light wheel pointed at the tree … something I did not grow up with, but which my mom asked me about!
There are two pools; our room overlooked the one with a lazy river! They have a large and well-appointed fitness room, in honor of Jack LaLanne, plus a bowling alley! And they play movies poolside! There is a great “diner” that serves up a variety of food (tho we brought our own and ate at the park) and a bar called “Swizzle”.
We will be staying at Cabana Bay in February when we return to Universal to celebrate Chris’s birthday!
While Chris took most of the photos with the “good” camera, here are a few I took with my phone:
And for Christmas Eve, we enjoyed sand, sun and surf on our first visit to Honeymoon Island…
As we are about to celebrate the turn of the year, leaving 2016 behind, I have so many memories of where we have been, what we have accomplished, who we have met. 2016 saw us select Florida as our home state, once again. We will continue to bloom where we are planted.
And celebrate good times!
Wishing you abundance in everything for 2017!
