How might you upscale boxed cake mix and pre-made frosting, you ask?
Begin with homemade Sweet & Spicy Pecans.
You will need:
1/4 c brown sugar
3/4 t salt
3/4 t chili powder
1/4 t cinnamon
1 egg white
1 c pecans
*If you like more savory than sweet, increase the salt & spices & decrease the sugar. Make this your own!
Preheat oven to 300 degrees, spray a baking sheet or cover with parchment paper.
In a small bowl, mix sugar and spices.
In medium bowl, beet egg white with fork until fluffy.
Add pecans to egg white; mix until coated.
Slowly sprinkle sugar & spice mixture into pecans; coating evenly.
Pour onto baking sheet (or parchment) and separate.
Bake 30-35 minutes. Cool 5 minutes.
Next, you mix boxed cake mix with 1 can pure pumpkin. Nothing else; just the pumpkin! Disregard all other ingredients on the packaging!! Bake as directed.
When cake is cooled, cover with frosting.
Top with your Sweet & Spicy Pecans!
And just like that, you have upscaled the nutritional profile of the cake mix with your pumpkin and have the textures, flavors and Wow! factor with your Sweet & Spicy Pecans!
